Basics of Square Leg Chinks Making

In this course we are going to cover the step by step process of building a set of square leg chinks. These precise and easy to follow videos will allow you to create your first pair of chinks without the headache! We will learn the following topics so that you can #useyourskills and Be A Maker of Good!
- Taking proper measurements to go with the pattern
- Prepping the parts & pieces for the chinks
- Finishing for all the parts including stitch grooving, edge finish and more.
- Properly placing your pattern and cutting your leather
- Creating your yokes and side pieces to be added to the bodies
- Sewing the pieces together including the back belt
- Trimming the excess leather after sewing and installing hardware
- Lacing the back belts
- Creating and adding fringe
- Sewing your chinks piece by piece for the smoothest process possible
- Checking the fit
*This course requires a basic knowledge in the set up and operation of a leather sewing machine. We primarily focus on the build out of a pair of chinks. While chinks can be sewn by hand, it is highly encouraged to use a sewing machine.*

ESTIMATE INITIAL INVESTMENT COSTS FOR TOOLS & MATERIAL
We understand that deciding to invest in learning a trade takes thought and planning. Please find below an estimated initial investment cost for tools and materials used in this course. As always, better tools make the learning curve less steep, however you can start small and add tools as you go. Lastly a lot of tools used in one course can be used in another of the same trade.

- Cutting Device (Head Knife, Utility Knife, Rotary Cutter)
- Hardware, Buckles, Rivets Zippers
- Punches
- Maul, Hammer
- Leather; 1 side, vegtan for yokes,sides, back belt
- Sewing Machine (It is possible to hand sew or buckstitch if necessary, but a leather sewing machine will make your Maker process much smoother)
